Twenty-Third Annual Sunset Rotary
22nd Annual Mike Stone Soccer Invitational
All Proceeds Benefit Pediatric Cancer/For Kids' Sake Foundation, Inc.
On December 27-29, 2017 the 22nd Annual Mike Stone Soccer Invitational will be held at The Mike Stone Soccer Complex at Hickory Point Park in Tavares, FL. Nearly 500 high school athletes surrounded by their coaches, family, and friends will take the field for this three day tournament.
Mike Stone was a long time soccer coach, referee, and Lake County Soccer Club president. He was the driving force in making the soccer complex the high quality it is today and directed the annual t ournament for many years. The tournament attracts teams from all over the state of Floirda and out of state as well. Sadly, Mike passed away July 16, 2016 and in his honor the previous name,The Hickory Point Tournament was changed to the Mike Stone Invitational.
In Mike's words in previous years: "I’ve always been grateful for what this event accomplishes. It allows athletes to stay in shape during the holiday break. It gives soccer teams an opportunity to hone their skills against teams that they might never have an opportunity to play. It is a prosperous event for our community bringing in over 2,000 Florida residents and often several out-of-state teams to the Tavares area.
This year, I have one more reason to be grateful – all proceeds will benefit a foundation that is near and dear to my heart and it was all inspired by a little girl that my wife and I adore. Her name is Malia Jusczyk and she was diagnosed with neuroblastoma at the age of 2 1/2. For years she fought this disease enduring invasive surgeries, extensive treatments, an arsenal of medications and too many nights in the hospital, but in the end it was worth it. Malia just turned 6 and she is cancer free. The Jusczyks are giving back. They founded a non-profit, For Kids’ Sake Foundation and the organization is 100% dedicated to pediatric cancer research and supporting families that are receiving this devastating news."
UPDATE: Malia turned 9 in June and is cancer free. Her family helps each year with the tournament as well as raising money for research and funds to assist families with the financial burdens borught on by pediatric cancer.
What can you do? Score big by becoming a sponsor of this worthwhile event.

The Mike Stone Invitational is a huge undertaking and without the support of the local community it would not be possible. For that, 500 soccer players and families touched by pediatric cancer are truly grateful.
